Moonbeam: A Staged Story Reading

On July 29th and 30th in historic Cottage Hill, travel to the world of Freedom through a live, staged reading of a short story published in Spring 2024.
Set in 1935 in the Black community of Freedom, Alabama, Moonbeam describes the night a Blues singer named Twilight Hawkins and a hairdresser named Miss Mabel Pugh bore witness to tragedy and in it found common ground, an unlikely friendship, and an answer to their prayers. Themes explore race, lynching, and the bonds and burdens of Black womanhood.
This is a chance to meet the author and connect with local artists and musicians amidst art, dessert and drinks, and live music.
Admission includes:
- A Staged Reading of Moonbeam featuring Professional Actors
- A Signed Copy of Moonbeam
- Art Show featuring Work by Local Artists
- Live music and Delicious Refreshments
- Closing Discussion with the Author
Join us for this special night in Montgomery…and what we hope will be your first of many trips to Freedom.
